Dr. Brian Wood graduated from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile, AL and completed his residency in Tuscaloosa, AL. During his final year, Dr. Wood served as Chief Resident.
Dr. Wood enjoys music (he plays the piano, trumpet, and drums and is learning to play the guitar). He also loves watching SEC football and spending time with his family.
A native of Troy, Ala., Dr. Michael Canfield, M.D., FAAFP, joins PMA after serving at the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System where he was primary care physician and associate chief of staff for ambulatory care. Dr. Canfield graduated from Troy State University, and he attended medical school and completed a family practice residency at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile.
Dr. Canfield served in the United States Air Force and his assignments included family physician at Tinker AFB, Okla., flight surgeon 965th AWACS and senior flight surgeon 39th Special Operations Wing-NATO. A decorated Gulf War veteran, he completed his military service as chief of flight medicine at Charleston AFB, S.C., with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was named the AF-Special Operations Command Flight Surgeon of the year in 1992.
Prior to his time with the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System, Dr. Canfield was in private practice in Summerville, S.C. While there, he served as vice president of Palmetto Primary Care Physicians (PPCP), a group of more than 50 providers caring for 300,000 patients at 20 sites over a five-county area of the South Carolina Low Country. He was medical director of Oakbrook Health and Rehab Hospital and South Carolina Coastal Evaluation Center (juvenile prison). He also served the community as a delegate of the South Carolina Medical Association and a physician for Medical Outreach Ministry, a faith-based medical clinic.
Dr. Canfield is a board-certified family physician and a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is married to Dr. Jennifer Canfield, a music professor and director of choirs at Huntingdon College. They have two children and two grandchildren. An Auburn resident for more than five years, Dr. Canfield is active in his church choir, as well as medical mission trips to Haiti.
